At home in the mountains.

Newly renovated for winter 2016/17, with further improvements in 2017/18 including a brand new outdoor Hot Tub, The Lodge at Samoëns has been rented to new and returning guests for almost a decade.  Built in the traditional Alpine style overlooking the Giffre Valley, the five-bedroom chalet once lived under the banner of the “Maison Blanche,” or White House.  And although it’s yet to welcome a president, The Lodge has been a home in the mountains to hundreds of travellers looking for thrills, tranquillity, or something in between.

The Lodge is a short walk (or an even shorter drive) from Samoëns’ village centre, an hour from Geneva airport by car, and an eight-minute gondola ride from some of the Alps’ finest North-facing ski slopes.

We prioritise comfort and convenience; The Lodge is cosy first and chic a close second.  The house sleeps its full complement of 12 people without a camp bed in sight.  We offer real, usable space for the biggest parties - or even two separate families, without either needing to share a bathroom.

In fact, many of our repeat guests are families like these: groups who came for a single ski season, to see how the Grand Massif compared to more crowded resorts like Val D’Isere.  Almost invariably, they came back.  In Samoëns, snow falls better and survives longer due to the Mont Blanc microclimate, and the resort is officially recognised as family friendly by the French Tourism Ministry.  Here, families and friends have the choice of evenings spent drinking and dining in an untouched Savoyard town, socialising in our large, split-level lounge, around the log fire, or touring the mountain forests by flickering, real flame torchlight.

For those who prefer their home comforts, The Lodge has fast WiFi internet access, English and French television channels, and soft sofas in every conceivable corner.  Bring breakfast home from Samoëns’ award-winning bakery, and gather at one of our twelve-person dining tables for coffee and conversation.  Or, in summer, explore the 2/3 acre private garden and get some games going on the flat lawn.

Alpine adventurers will be spoilt for choice.

Ski, snowboard, snowshoe, skidoo, dogsled, and more.  Make the most of the mountains without worrying too much about bringing bits of them home with you; The Lodge has a large ground floor garage for storing, washing, and drying all your equipment and outdoor gear.

And parties who want a balance can truly have the best of both worlds.  Novice skiers and children can take to the sport slowly at Samoëns 1600 (the largest beginners’ area in the Grand Massif). While self-caterers who choose to stay off the slopes can browse the historic streets in the village, picking up pastries, cheese, mountain ham and other local produce.

In French, they call this kind of outdoor experience “en plein air”.  That doesn’t translate literally into English, but here’s how we interpret it:

Friends ski intermediate or expert slopes during the day, and come together in the evenings to graze on gourmet delicacies, looking out over the garden and the River Giffre, and drinking in the stark beauty of the mountains beyond. Families bundle up on one of three south-facing balconies to sip mulled wine (or hot chocolate for the children) and watch paragliders float into the valley on sunset thermals.
