November activities in Samoëns

October, November and early December are the quiet months in Samoëns, but please do not let this put you off visiting. The Lodge is cosy and the valley beautiful, serene, and bathed in autumnal colours,

Hiking, Mountain Biking and Road Cycling are all popular activities for this time of year, a favourite time for the locals. Early snowfall may close some of the cols, however there are an abundance of testing routes, and not so testing ones on the valley floor. Cirque du Fer-à-Cheval is a area of stunning beauty and should not be missed on any visit to the area. it is situated at the head of the Giffre valley, just 15km from Samoëns. There are trails for hikers and bikers, easy on the valley floor or up towards the mountain chalets and refuges of Chalet du Boret (a wonderful panorama) - with a steep climb in and easier walk out, to the head of the valley and back - and higher up Refuge de la Vogealle. Visit the Cascade de Rouget a spectacular waterfall just outside Sixt. Drive passed the Cascade de Rouget and park at Chalet du Lignon, a short 30-45 minute walk towards Refuge de Sales takes you to two side-by-side waterfalls of Cascades de la Pleureuse et de la Sauffaz, unique and beautiful. One of the pair is from an unknown source, and the water is said not to be drinkable.

Please check that mountain chalets and refuges are open at this time of year, we can help you with this - just ask.

The town of Samoëns is less touristy and more business like, as we start the inter-season. There are renovations and no-doubt improvements to the Ski Domain, in preparation for the new ski season, but this all goes on out of your sight, up the mountain.
