January activities in Samoëns
After New Year the festive crowds disappear - January can be cold but this usually means perfect skiing conditions, it is a favourite month for us to visit and the locals love to ski in January. It is certainly a prime time and extremely good value skiing early in the month. The Lodge at Samoëns is the perfect venue for your family ski holiday, with plenty of space for up to 12 people, and with 3 showers and a bath. Ask Megan and Jonny for breakfast options.
Explore the mountain whatever your ability, with experts only skiing in Ger Bowl. The Tête des Saix junction at the summit of the Samoëns/Morillon/Les Carroz has benefited from improvements made before the 2018 ski season, dramatically widening the piste and making it a far more pleasurable experience for beginners and less competent skiers, Morillon is a ideal area for beginners and progressive skiers with wide blue runs and the Marvel Piste, the longest green run in the Alps and also one of the most beautiful. Gron at Les Carroz has a variety of reds and blues which are a carvers paradise, using the Gron lift, you can experience a maize of different interlinking pistes. Then there is Flaine, I must say that I would rather stay in Samoëns and ski to Flaine, but Flaine is recognised as one of the premier ski bowls in the Alps. with steep blacks and wide carving red and blues, all served by a fast modern lift system - the mountain restaurants are good too - our favourites are Le Michet and L'Epicea.
